NOTE: Many coffee growers do not label their coffees grown to “organic” standards for several reasons. Among those are objections to the yearly cost of certification and the bewildering number of relevant certifications they can pay for; also, some growers pride themselves on their farms being “organic by nature” meaning they have never used artificial fertilizers or pesticides of any kind and feel that labels imply a lesser status to their farms, or fincas; and lastly, many farms do not care not care to engage in what they perceive to be a remnant of colonialism by another name imposed by certification. Labels may matter to some consumers; very often in the coffee trade, so does history, practice and repeated yearly production. It’s always best to know where your beans come from, which is why ESPRESSO offers this daily update of local beans.
