TODAY’S COFFEES roasted in San Diego on 1/13/26:
NOTE: The Winter Fancy Faire continues at the SD Convention Center. Two coffee offerings stand out: One is Italian Tuberga espresso. This is a 90/10 Arabica/Robusta from Turin that was everything a correct espresso should be. The other is Cafe Caliente, an exciting Washington state based roaster that combines Mexico Oaxaca light roast with chilis in the ferment and drying process. The results are just amazing: an already bright and sharp coffee with a slight zing of peppers that enhance the coffee’s high notes. Mouth feel is very good, with a decent finish and lingering smoothness. The coffee is available in two forms; Caliente, as in hot, and Picante, which is a bit less thrilling. ESPRESSO went for the Caliente. Something like this is a fine next step for Cafe de Olla afficionadoes and pairs well with Mexican or other spicy cuisine.
