NOTE: As expected, American tariffs imposed by the trump administration are having an effect on coffee imports, most notably from Brazil, victim of 50 percent import tariffs on coffee. Sources among coffee brokers and importers are now quietly aware of increased Colombian exports outstripping expected production from that country, and strongly suspect the increase in coffee from Colombia is actually Brazilian, sold ultimately to American concerns at a lower tariff rate. This keeps the trade humming from one of the world’s greatest producers of coffee and adds much to the Colombian bottom line and shows as usual, that where there’s a will, there’s a way to fair trade markets, tariffs or not.
