The San Diego Music Hall of Fame will take place today, November 3, with an induction ceremony featuring performances by Mike Wofford, Jamie Shadowlight, Jeff Berkley & The Banned, Fred Benedetti, Monette Marino, Lisa Sanders, Rob Deez, Gato Papacitos and Jefferson Jay.
For organizer Jefferson Jay, the SDMHF is not only a labor of love, but a life mission. Beginning in 2005 with a nonprofit organization he founded called the San Diego Musicians Collective, dedicated to showcasing little known talent, Jay has worked to bring more locals to international awareness. His latest effort, SDMHF, was was launched in 2018 and has moved into several locations over the years. Each year has gained ground against the celebrated inertia that plagues dynamic arts in San Diego, and gained increasing notoriety for what is becoming a San Diego Sound that draws across musical genres and forms and is increasingly making a name for itself as a distinct art form.
Jay, a singer and songwriter with a life in music and background in history is perhaps the best judge of the region’s talent and musical eclectisim. He has legacy, for one thing; and the experience of the 32 years of the San Diego Music Awards, to draw from. That organization was headed by Kevin Hellman and was responsible for shaping the growth and direction of local music for many years. Jay drew from that experience and works toward developing a permanent SD Music Hall of Fame.
Tonight’s show will be in a new Mission Valley location called Vision: A Center for Spiritual Living, 4780 Mission Gorge Place, Ste. H, SD. More info at sdmusichalloffame.com
