TODAY’S COFFEES

TODAY’S COFFEES roasted in San Diego on 6/21/24:

MODERN TIMES: Kenya Nguku single origin. Costa Rica bourbon barrel aged Romelia; this coffee is aged for two months in bourbon barrels during the drying/fermenting process. Said to impose a sweeter flavor to the beans. Both it and the Kenya are light roasted. http://moderntimesbeer.com

XULA: Mexico Veracruz dark roast. Brewed Cafe Olla on demand, too. http://xulamexicancoffee.com

LONESOME RIDER: Brazil/Guatemala Snake Bite blend; added caffein to high grade Robusta beans. Not for the tame. Six Shooter blend (Asia, Africa and the Americas) dark roasted. http://lonesomeridercoffee.com

VIGILANTE: Ecuador Alambi, very high grown, Bourbon, Typica and Sidra varietals (Sidra is one very picky little bean) washed process, City Roast (medium). Brazil Capim Seco, Yellow and Red Bourbon varietals, natural process, City Roast; high note flavor profile with sharp, long lasting finish. Filter cup brew method recommended at 205 – 207 degrees F. for 1: 14 coffee/water ratio. If you like the high register acidity, this one is for you. El Salvador Las Veraneras, anerobic process (full coffee berries are sealed in tanks for four days; imparting sugar and natural flavors to the beans). Bourbon and San Pacho varietals, light roast (of course they light roasted it, doesn’t everybody?) Filter cup brew recommended at 1:15 coffee/water ratio at 198 – 203 degrees F.http://vigilantecoffee.com

QUAIL STREET: Tanzania Kilimanjaro organic; direct trade (roaster buys direct from farmer) Bourbon, Kent, N39 varietals, light roast (did they even try a darker roast?) Filter cup, Aero Press and drip method recommended by QS. We recommend filter cups. Kilimanjaro region coffees are not common, unfortunately, but usually have excellent characteristics. http://quailstreetcoffeeroasters.com

SEVEN SEAS: Vietnam Dak Lak (Life of the Party–as in Ruling party) Robusta TR varietals (Vietnam produces a lot of Robusta) anerobic natural process, medium roast with high levels of retained caffein. Robusta contains relatively great amounts of caffein compared to Arabicas; this and the “bold” flavor Robusta is known for will pop your eyes wide open. Not for beginners, crybabies, aesthete shut-ins or those without a sense of adventure. Mexico Chiapas El Dragon natural anerobic process, direct trade, microlot of only fifty bags, Bourbon and Caturra varietals. This coffee is picked when over ripe then fermented in sealed tanks; this imparts a durable and somewhat sweeter flavor to the beans. City Roast. http://sevenseasroasting.com
